There are few places in Britain which so evoke the spirit of racing heroism as Brooklands. For decades it was at the epicentre of both motor racing and aircraft development. The banked circuit – created by Hugh Locke King – saw records tumble to men with nerves of steel who were determined to carve out their place in history...

Brooklands race track, in Weybridge, Surrey, was Britain’s first purpose built motorsport facility, instigated by Hugh Fortescue Locke King, though greatly assisted by his wife Ethel, who helped bring her husband’s dream to fruition and also saved him from bankruptcy.
