With the piston removed and cleaned up I can see the extent of the pitting on the working surface. Any pitting here will damage the fluid seal and could cause the brake to lose pressure, so this will have to be binned and replaced with a new piston. The inside of the caliper body has fared better, and will clean up with a little Scotchbrite
