This poor old BSA Gold Star engine suffered much abuse during its early life before it was cast into a corner of a shed. Mating surfaces were scored and cases distorted. While true, the timing chest and cover mating faces were badly roughened and scored, the result of inappropriate dismantle techniques decades ago. Dark areas indicate worst damage
