Postby gasman » Sun Mar 11, 2012 10:22 pm

I don't know about rearward vision or anti vibe, but bar-end mirrors definitely hamper your ability to filter.
(Don't ask how I know !)
If your conventionally mounted mirrors vibrate too much you can always damp the vibes out a bit with bar-end weights - if you've got bar-end mirrors then fitting weights on stalks just looks silly !

My bar end mirror gives a good view and folds away for parking etc.
Although the engine vibrates at speed the mirror does not not blur like handlebar mounting ones did in the past.
It may depend on the type of engine and vibration.

I've got a bar-end mirror on my 3 1/2 Strada and 'proper' ones on the Sport. The proper ones are better in all respects - fewer vibes, no extra width to hamper filtering and I can see both my shoulders as I'm riding along. The bar-end one works fairly well but blurs more (this could be due to the normal handlebars as opposed to the clip-ons on the other bike) and does add an irritating 4 inches to the right hand side of the bike. Oh, and the first time you ride on the Continent, you'll really wish you had fitted a mirror to the left hand side as well...

Seems to depend upon the bike. Standard mirrors have always worked best for me, but for bikes with no standard fitting I have always used bar end. Clamp on handlebar mirrors seem for the most part seem to be too flimsy and not only vibrate but also tend to move about. Of course, that could be because I have bought at the cheaper end of the market.

Iv'e got bar end mirrors on the old Matchless G9, and you are right Gus, the increased width can bugger you up sometimes. On the other hand visibility is fair with them.
The stem type I have fitted to my Suki VZ800 are also ok , bars are quite wide tho and bar end would really be a hindrance. Horses for courses then, not noticed vibration on either tho.

I use bar ends on the BSA and normal ones on the yam. I don't find the bar ends much of a problem [you don't do much overtaking on an M21 !] and they do seem to give good rear vision.

Without a doubt bar end, I fit CRG hindsight that folds flat when not in use ,you can swap sides when you go abroad,
just a 4mm and 6mm allen key required, bit pricey but worth every penny in quality.
Look at Faster by Design ,UK importer.
